I smile as I go to buy some aftershave/cologne and ask to see the most expensive and the most popular. I was shocked to see that a bottle of this stuff, a few oz’s, costs close to $100, for what….smell…..then I realize that a certain generation of men don’t wear aftershave or cologne…..soooooo. Buy the way, I did not buy any of that costly stuff and stayed with the kind my dad wore which still costs only $6.00.
I was reading in 2 Corinthians this AM and was challenged that the Christ follower is the “fragrance” of Christ to those they are around. 2 Cor. 2:14,15 says, “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in His triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing…”
Now, I like sweet aroma’s don’t you? Especially the aroma that Paul is talking about here, Christ followers who daily represent Christ with their character, their speech and their thought life. Men and women of faith who allow the “fruit of the Spirit” to richly flow in them to overflowing that the fragrance of God’s beauty would flow through us to touch others for His glory.
You know friends, “ALL” it costs for us to be the fragrance of Christ amongst people is faithful obedience to His Word and surrender of our spirit to His!!!! Now that’s a tall order but truly worth it as we live in a “stinky” world.
I would appreciate your prayers. This coming Monday I and five others from our church will be traveling to Delhi, India to teach, train and serve alongside Deepak and Anuja Lal. God has raised this couple up to start schools in slums, open orphanages and work with church planting pastors along the whole northern are of India. We will be gone for 10 days and very busy during this time, so we would appreciate your prayer support friends.
Have a great day and may the fragrance of Christ flow through each of our lives for His glory!

Pastor Doug’s newsletter for September 18, 2013 can be downloaded here or read below. “Who Encourages the Encourager” is the title, motivating the reader to develop a deeper and stronger relationship with Christ. Pastor Doug’s daily note of encouragement can be read by connecting with him on Facebook.
“Who Encourages the Encourager?”
For sometime I have written about the significance of each Christ follower taking it upon themselves to be an “encourager” to those in their sphere of influence.
Recently, I have come across people who do encourage on a regular basis, but have found them a little discouraged at times. And if were truly honest each of us will get a little discouraged at times and wonder, whose out there that will encourage us?
“Who encourages the encourager?”
Who was there for Jeremiah that would encourage him, when nothing good happened in his ministry for 40 years? Or how about the Apostles after Christ left them here on earth and all but one would be martyred for their faith? Or, closer to home, how about each of us going through life and the heaviness at times we face, who is there to encourage us, build us up, strengthen us, to keep going…regardless….?
I think the answer is the same as we saw in Jeremiah’s & the Apostle’s life and for our lives as well. I’ll let you read Jeremiah 32:17-20, 27 but note with me what Paul understood and passed on to us for our life Romans 15:5a & 13, “Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement…..Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace believing, that you may about in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Friends, lasting encouragement and perseverance for our life comes from a deepening relationship with the living, loving, life giving, life changing Lord! Daily, taking time to let Him refuel, refocus, refresh and encourage us through His Word for His glory.
That kind of encouragement lasts!
Have a great day friends,
