“Dear Friends,

I want to start off this note by saying “I am in no way a nurse.” I have the highest admiration for them, growing higher by the day by the way, but….please be clear, I could never be a nurse.

But, in 1969 I made a “Vow” to Farrol to “Love and to cherish her, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health,”….regardless (I added the word regardless, but you get the point).

As many of you know she had rotator cuff surgery this past Monday. It was pretty major according to the surgeon, but it is over with and he felt he was able to repair the damage she incurred because of a fall on the Thursday before Easter.

I am honored to be married to such a godly woman, and privileged to take care of her (she has taken care of me through three major cancer surgeries, my three siblings coming to live with us, one year into our marriage because of the death of my grandma Yanney, and the list could go on and on of how Farrol has sacrificed and cared for me and my family and many others).

So with that said, I made a vow to the one I deeply love and care for and will not break it just because I am not comfortable to do some of the things that she needs to have done.

Strong marriages are built on “selflessness” and destroyed because of “selfishness.” I choose being selfless out of love for my God and my wife.

I made a vow and am honored to keep it!”

“So Easy To Slip Into….”, Pastor Doug’s Devotional, May 17, 2017

So Easy To Slip Into…” is the title of Pastor Doug’s devotional for May 17, 2017, which can be read below. His daily devotional can be received via email by contacting him at dgshada@gmail.com. His daily word of encouragement can be ready by connecting with him on Facebook and with Living Faith Fellowship on Facebook. Each has a unique daily inspiration. Please join us each Sunday for worship at our church facility, 33rd and Avenue I, Kearney, Nebraska, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:00 a.m.

Dear Friends,

It is so easy to start taking things for granted and begin to think we are entitled to this or that. You know, “we are trying to do the right things, live in a manner that is right in the eyes of others, keep our yard looking nice, helping as we can with community things and at church, you know be the good citizen we’re supposed to be, I deserve……..”

We get so busy “doing” we don’t take much time to sit back and be thankful for what God has done for us and what we have as a result of just living in America. One wisely said “ingratitude is one of the greatest sins amongst God’s people.” It is so easy to slip into the habit of wanting our comforts met, our desires to be accomplished that we fail to “Give thanks to the Lord for who He is and what He has done for our life.”

It is good for me to sit back on this beautiful rainy morning and not allow this slippage to hit my life. Instead join me in taking a little time to say “Thank You Lord for all you have done for us, and the glory that awaits each of us for all eternity.”

May we live with a “Grateful” heart and not slip down into ingratitude as is so easy to do.

Striving together for His glory,

Doug

“Labeling”, Pastor Doug’s Devotional, May 12, 2017

Dear Friends,

We often get caught up in labeling people. Democrat or Republican, Progressive or Conservative, Rich or Poor, Have’s and Have not’s, Gay or straight or….And the list could go on and on.

Friends, we as Christ followers must see, as we are taught, there are really only two kinds of people, “Saved & Unsaved.” Those who know Christ and those who don’t. Those who are heading for an eternity in Heaven and those who are headed for an eternal separation from God in hell.

We get “No place” with those who are without Christ by labeling them any other way than understanding their eternal destiny and knowing that we have the greatest message of love & hope for all who are lost and headed for a Christ less eternity. We have the Good News of Jesus Christ coming to this earth to be the perfect, spotless sacrifice for man kinds sins. We cannot keep that to ourselves.

I want to be labeled, for certain, as someone who cares for those who are perishing, whether they are here in my hometown or around the World. Caring enough to do what it takes to get the gospel message to mankind.

I like that kind of label!

Doug

“Procrastination…or…Immediately”, Pastor Doug’s Devotional, May 3, 2017

Friends,

I had a close friend that once said, “why do today, what you can put off until tomorrow.” I smile when I think of my friend, because procrastination did mark his life. Always, tomorrow, he would do this or that which needed to be done. I will start cleaning my house tomorrow (it was a mess by the way). I will diet tomorrow. I will grow in my faith tomorrow…..You get the point.

Mark’s gospel is often called the “Immediate” gospel. Over 10 times in the first chapter alone the word “Immediately” was used. The demons obeyed Him “Immediately.” Sickness fled under His healing hand “Immediately.” “And immediately the news about Him went out everywhere…”

The word simply means “without delay.”

What a difference it would make if we each threw the procrastination syndrome out the window and begin to live for His glory, obeying His truth/commands and being about His service “Immediately!”

It is good for me to think on, “am I more of a procrastinator or one who responds to the Lord’s truths “Immediately?” I know what He deserves….

Striving together for His glory,

Doug
