Below is the October 4, 2017 devotional from Pastor Doug. His weekly devotional can be received via email by contacting him at firstname.lastname@example.org. His daily word of encouragement can be read by connecting with him on Facebook and with Living Faith fellowship on Facebook.
Recently I was asked to write an article using some of the Bible passages that have been most helpful in my life. I thought I would share these with you.
Since we are such self centered beings here are two texts that have been good for me:
Luke 9:23, “If anyone wishes to come after ME, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.”
Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now life in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me.”
Selfishness destroys, selflessness builds.
If Jesus thought these were important so should I, as I walk down life’s path:
The two Great Commandment’s; “Mark 12:29-31, “Jesus answered, “The foremost is, Hear O Israel! The LORD our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength.” “The second is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
The Great Commission Matthew 28:18-20, “And Jesus came up and spoke to them saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.”
No explanation needed, other than world, means world! One of the great joys has been partnering with men and women from throughout this world in seeing souls saved, disciples made, homes strengthened and workers sent forth in His harvest field.
Early on in my ministry I gave myself to work with men or husband/wife teams, striving to help them be all God created them to be for His glory:
2 Timothy 2:2, & Colossians 1:27-29, you will see why, “And the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful me, who will be able to teach others also.”
Colossians 2:27-29, ” To whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of the mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you the hope of glory. And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every m an with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ. And for this purpose also, I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.”
Staying consistent, not allowing burn out to impact our life is important. Here are the two texts that have been so good for me:
1 Corinthians 10:31, “Whether then you eat of drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:14a, “For the love of Christ compels me.”
Striving together for His glory,
