“The Bread of Life”, Pastor Paul’s Sermon, Sunday, January 28, 2018

Welcome to Living Faith Fellowship! “The Bread of Life” is the title of Pastor Paul’s sermon delivered on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Part of a series from the Book of John, this sermon is based on John 6:45-52, discussing how Jesus satisfies the human longing for thirst and hunger. The audio recording of this sermon can be heard here.

Pastor Paul began his sermon with a “Children’s Version” of this passage on the Bread of Life:

“There is nothing better or more important in life than having Jesus. Jesus shows us just how much we need him by comparing himself to food and water. Consider this: if we want to continue living then we need to eat food and drink water. However, if we want to have a really good life- the best life one could ever have- then we need Jesus. He is better than having food, water, money, video games, friends, family, Legos and allowances. He is even better than everything we put on our Christmas list. You see, the reason why is because everything else that we could ever have in life will in some way fail us or be insufficient to fulfill our deepest needs. Our friends might mistreat us. We may lose all of our money. In fact, it doesn’t even matter how much money we have in life because money can never buy us true happiness. Our family may hurt us or make us angry. Food only satisfies us for a few hours and then we are left hungry for more. Jesus, however, will never fail us. He alone is what we need to overcome the emptiness that everything else has left us with.

The only thing we need to do to have Jesus is to believe in him, trusting that He is who He says he is and that He will always take care of us. The God who made this world and everything in it knows exactly what we need, even better than we ourselves do. He knows that we need his Son Jesus more than anything else in this life, so he gave Jesus to us as a gift. John 3:16 says that God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. We know that a gift only costs the one who gives it, but it is free to the one who receives it.

Not only has God given us Jesus as the best gift we could ever have, but he also teaches us about Jesus in our heart and helps us to know Jesus better. If he didn’t teach us about Jesus, then we would never realize just how much more we need him more than anything else in this life. Even better yet, once we have Jesus, we will never have to worry about losing him. God gave him to us as a gift because he really truly loves us and, no matter what we do in life, he will never change his mind, nor will he ever quit loving us. That’s why we can trust Jesus when he says that He is the bread of life, and that whoever comes to him will never hunger, and whoever believes in him will never thirst (John 6.35).”
